Sony announced new line of slim external batteries for smartphones and tablets. Weighing around 200 grams and measuring 130.6 by 12.9 mm, these boxes will ship in capacities of 3,500 to 7,000mAh. Charging will be conducted via USB with Sony promising up to 500 recharges. Most smartphones will be fully charged in about an hour and half.
If that’s not your cup of tea and you would rather have something smaller to carry around, Sony will also release “stick-type” external batteries in assorted colors. Both battery types are set to launch in Japan later this fall, with prices ranging from 2,300 yen ($30) to 7,000 yen ($90).
