BBM Money to allow Indonesians to transfer funds between BlackBerries

It was an interesting year for Research In Motion that’s been a roller coaster filled with both highs and lows. The company was considered on life support for most of 2012, with shrinking market share, management shake-ups, etc. However, as of late, the Waterloo company has begun to receive some praise from phone carriers and investors like Goldman Sachs in anticipation of its new BlackBerry 10 devices slated for February 2013.

With all that said, the company looks to continue improving its presence across seas with the launch of BBM Money in Indonesia. The new service allows Indonesians to transfer funds from their BlackBerry to another. Despite an evaporating customer base in the United Sates, RIM is still popular in the country of Indonesia, but Android is making a serious run at taking some market share. By introducing new services like BBM Money, the BlackBerry maker looks to continue its stranglehold in the country.

Unfortunately, we have no clue when exactly BBM Money will hit the masses, though RIM claims the service will come “shortly.” We won’t be at all surprised if the company holds off on launching BBM Money in an effort of pairing it with the launch of BlackBerry 10 in 2013. It would make sense.
