San Francisco-based startup Boombotix is raising cash for the REX, an ultra-portable 2.1 stereo speaker in a “rugged-yet-refined package” with Bluetooth connectivity and control, a microphone, and a built-in clip. The device is part of the company’s Boombot speaker line, designed to provide alternative to headphones.

The Boombot REX is acoustically crafted to provide full fidelity 2.1 stereo sound in a ruggedized, IP53 water-resistant shell that fits in the palm of your hand. It features steel reinforced belt clip, allowing speakers to be clipped onto any bag, belt or backpack and transported wherever needed.

In addition, the Boombot REX offers Siri compatible speakerphone functionality, and you can use it for phone calls even in the harshest locations without taking your mobile device out of your pocket.

If all this sounds appealing, you can secure your unit from Kickstarter. The “Arctic White” model could be yours for $75, while colored versions (Electric Blue, Savage Green and Pitch Black) cost $5 more. Or you can pledge $100 to get the speaker in any color your want along with a Custom Grill Kit that includes replacement front grill, rear clip and port covers in your choice of PURPLE or ORANGE…

Cool speaker… though I can’t bear waiting for Kickstarter products to ship.
