A nice demo is always good to woo potential customers, and that’s exactly what we saw from Liquipel during CES this year. Making smartphones water-safe is a trend we’re beginning to see from many manufacturers today, but if you’re current device doesn’t ship with such a nano coating, then Liquipel might be the perfect solution for you!
This year at CES, Liquipel is announcing version 2.0 of its, and is “a huge advancement for super-hydrophobic nanotechnology,” said Danny McPhail, Liquipel’s Head of Product Development and Co-Founder.
Liquipel is a dry process that once applied, essentially becomes a part of the device. It will last the lifespan of the device and is completely invisible, but the results are anything but. Liquipel’s booth demo is quite convincing, even without showing the water resistance on a phone itself. A Liquipel-treated Kleenex was completely submerged into a bucket of water and came out completely dry. The texture of the tissue wasn’t affected at all, and you can easily see any water beading up on top, without any sort of absorption. I was actually so impressed with the tissue demo, I forgot to take a photo of the treated Galaxy S III under water!
When exposed to drops of water or other liquid like coffee or soda, the liquid will immediately bead up and roll off of the device if held at an angle. This would be especially helpful if you’re in the rain and trying to shoot out a quick text or something of the sort
The company currently in the process of striking licensing deals with certain retailers to have the process done locally. Specific vendors weren’t mentioned, but the machine that’s to be offered is about the size of a standard office printer (read: a bit larger), but can treat up to 20 devices at one time. If you’re not looking to wait for such a machine to land at a store near you, check out Liquipel’s website to see if your current device is supported, and you can send it off to them to treat it for you.
