You may’ve heard that ZTE is working on a low-cost smartphone with big, 5-inch screen. While we still don’t know when such a device will be released in the west, we know it’s first heading to east, where one of China’s big three carriers will start selling it in the near future.

The ZTE U956 MT6589 has been caught in the wild, boasting a 5-inch 720p HD screen (not full HD), 8-megapixel camera on the back, while MediaTek MT6589 chip is providing the horse-power needed to run things smoothly. In addition, there’s also a TD-SCDMA radio inside, hinting us this bad boy will end-up in the portfolio of the world’s largest mobile operator, China Mobile.

When it comes to price, we’re hearing the U956 MT6589 will go for 1,499 yuan, which translates into some $240. We’ll let you know when we get an additional detail or two. Stay tuned in the meantime…
