We’ve been told a numerous times that existing Windows Phone 7.5 users won’t get the latest version of the platform (8.0). Rather, Microsoft along with its OEM partners will release a Windows Phone 7.8 update to these phones, bringing many of the features the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS packs.

We’re glad to say that we finally got some sort of date when existing fans of the platform will get their goodies. The information comes from Windows Phone Colombia’s official Facebook page which says that the rollout will begin on January 31st.

Now we can’t tell that what Colombia’s Windows Phone division says works for the entire world, but the date seems plausible as Microsoft did mention the update will be released at some point in the first quarter.

Again, the update will bring resizable live tiles, Bluetooth file transfer, new themes and boot screens, improved messaging capabilities, and so on and on. Yup, we hope it’s coming sooner rather than later, and we’ll let you know when that happens.
