Denso has developed what it says is the world’s first integrated, in-vehicle wireless mobile phone charger in collaboration with Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions. And it already has a first client for the gear with Toyota integrating it in the 2013 Toyota Avalon Limited vehicle that will be sold in North America.

The charger is designed to meet the global Qi standard, established to ensure compatibility between Qi-compatible phones and other electronics and chargers. Some of the existing smartphones already support the technology (like Nexus 4, Nokia Lumia 820 and 920) and more devices that will be launched this year will integrate a Qi-compatible chip to allow wireless charging without an added sleeve.

The wireless mobile phone charger is manufactured at the company’s DENSO Wireless Systems America facility, located in Vista, California.
