Steve Wozniak: Apple iPhone is ‘somewhat behind’ the competition

Steve Wozniak didn’t quite have optimistic words about Apple in a recent report from German publication, Wiwo.de, in which he expressed some of his opinions in regards to how the iPhone is stacking up to the competition nowadays. Despite being the company’s co-founder, he has in the past acknowledged his fondness for newer Android handsets and the operating system as a whole.

“Currently we are in my opinion somewhat behind with features in the smartphone business,” he said. “Others have caught up. Samsung is a big competitor. But precisely because they are currently making great products.”

As big as an Apple fan the Woz might be, he’s not afraid to speak his mind when he feels Apple might not be doing so hot, especially because he no longer has legitimate influence at the company. In October when the iPhone 5 came out, he went as far as to call Apple “arrogant” and wished that the iPhone 5 had an even larger display than just 4 inches to better compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note smartphones.

It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to anyone who knows Steve Wozniak or the history of Apple. Steve Jobs was always the business savvy control freak while Wozniak loved the geeky aspects of building computers and modifying them. People who enjoy the latter tend to prefer the Android OS for its flexibility in that regard.
