Just when we’ve heard that Archos is working on its first smartphone, the company unveiled a new line of tablets. Unlike the earlier Titanium range which counted 4 devices, the new Platinum series consists of 3 devices, each packing a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2Ghz and 8-core GPU, 2GB of RAM, dual cameras, HDMI out and a memory card slot. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is running the show on every tablet.

First comes the Archos 80 Platinum, which has an 8-inch 1,024×768 pixels screen, and is thus well suited to compete with the likes of iPad Mini and Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9. It will start selling in February for $199 in the US, £179 in the UK, and 199 EUR in continental Europe.

The Archos 97 Platinum has a 9.7-inch 2,048×1,536 touchscreen, making it on par with the “regular” iPad. It too will be out in February costing $299 in the US, £249 in the UK, and €269 in the rest of Europe.

Finally, there’s the Archos 116 Platinum which has an 11.6-inch full HD (1,920×1,080) IPS touchscreen and it will be available in April. Price wise, you’ll be able to buy one for $349, £299 or €349.
