Ubuntu Touch revamped from the ground up - no longer running as an Android shell

The Canonical team is revamping the Ubuntu Touch OS from the ground up. Instead of booting into Android and firing up the Ubuntu system after Android has booted, the new images now boot into Ubuntu and initialize Android inside an LXC (LinuX Container) container during boot.

For regular folks this doesn’t mean a lot, but for real Ubuntu fans/hackers this is potentially a great news as they should be able to additionally tweak their system.

The changes are already live in the daily builds, though we’re not sure when they [changes] will be added into the official installer. It’s kinda fair to argue that will happen sooner rather than later.

On a similar note — and speaking like a true novice — we also hope that this development will affect the release of Ubuntu for Android, which many of us crave for.
