Google has announced its Google Play Games Services, which comes to us in the form of a new Play Games app that incorporates a gaming hub and portal for the Google Play Games Services that we caught a glimpse of at Google I/O back in May.
The app allows users to view leaderboards, friends that are playing similar games via Google+ circles and the ability to challenge friends to head-to-head matches with multiplayer gaming. Google has also added a new Play Store section which showcases games that have been optimized for tablets. Here are some key features of Google Play Games Services:
- Cloud Saves: This is a much requested feature that would allow you to save across devices
- APIs for Achievements: Like modern console games, Android game developers can now include achievements gamers can unlock in their titles.
- Leaderboards: Much Like Xbox Live, Steam, or the Playstation Network, there will be an online ranking using your circles, you can see your rankings worldwide and in your friend group.
- Comprehensive Multiplayer Matching: This is another move that will bring android gaming closer to its console counterparts. You can easily and quickly connect with friends or strangers for online play
The new Play Games app will be available later today from the Play Store.
