Shazam announced that its media recognition app has been used more than 10 billion times!
Best known for its music recognition services, Shazam has recently increased its presence in the TV market, working with advertisers to deliver interactive campaigns.
It took 10 years for the company to reach its first billion tags and ten months to reach two billion. One billion items were tagged in just two months to hit the 10 billion mark, according to the company’s CEO Rich Riley.
Lady Gaga’s song “Applause” was the 10 billionth item to be tagged by Shazam, and it was done by an iOS device user in New Jersey.
At the moment, Shazam processes more than 100 million tags per week, a 150% year-on-year increase, and up 312% since 2011. Their mobile application is available for multiple platforms, including iOS, Android and Windows Phone, and has been downloaded by more than 350 million users in 200 countries. It contributes more than $300 million in annual digital music sales, which is around 10% of the entire digital music industry.
