Xiaomi is now the 5th most popular smartphone maker in China, overtaking HTC for the spot. The fast-growing company is trailing Samsung, Apple, Nokia and Huawei; and it could easily hit the top 3 spot in the next few years.
According to Taiwanese TrendForce, Chinese phone users have moved away from low-cost devices made by the likes of Lenovo and ZTE, and are even avoiding HTC phones in favor of Xiaomi’s affordable though high-spec products.
One such device is the recently launched Xiaomi Hongmi aka Red Rice which offers quite a bang for the price of 799 Yuan (about $130). And yes, that money gets you a quad-core phone!
We can’t wait to see Xiaomi expanding to the West, offering a more reasonably priced alternative to Samsung and HTC Android devices…
