Even though the first Xiaomi Hongmi is still a relatively new device, the company is already thinking about its successor. In fact, according to GizChina, the upcoming Hongmi 2 may be launched by the end of this year, sporting a bigger, 5.5-inch screen and MediaTek’s 8-core MT6592 processor.

The first/original Hongmi (pictured above) was unveiled in August of this year with TD-SCDMA connectivity support that made it ready for China Mobile’s network. The WCDMA model was unveiled last week and has quickly become one of the most popular devices for folks looking for an awesome value for money (and who want to use it on any GSM-based network).

Specs wise, Xiaomi’s current baby packs a 4.7-inch 720p HD screen, MediaTek’s quad-core chip and an 8-megapixel camera on the back. It’s still not available in the West, though… But that could change with the company planning to expand to other markets during next year.
