Microsoft is apparently working to make Windows Phones compatible with hi-res 2K screens and next-gen chips. In fact, a Windows Phone device marked as Qualcomm LiQUID has been caught at GFXBench, and from its listing we learn that it will come with a 2K / QHD screen and Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chip.

Unfortunately, the listing at GFXBench’s website has been promptly removed so it’s difficult to confirm the manufacturer. However, NokiaPowerUser believes this phone is made by Nokia, which has tested devices in Qualcomm’s name before.

Now, we have no way of telling when this phone will be officially announced but we do hope to see it hitting the stores at some point in the second half of the year. At that time, it may not wear the Nokia logo at all; it’s not clear for how long Microsoft will keep using the Finnish company’s name. As far as we (don’t) know, this could be the Surface phone… or not. We’ll see…
