Philips is teasing the world with the upcoming Philips I908 that could be the next device to claim the world’s slimmest smartphone title.
According to GSMdome, this device shares many of the I928 features, which for those who missed it, was the company’s octa-core phablet aimed at the ever-growing Chinese market.
The I908 too will pack MediaTek’s octa-core SoC though in a smaller body. Rumored specs include a 5-inch screen (rather than 5.5-inch one), most likely with full HD resolution, said MediaTek chip (MT6592) clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. In addition, it will boast a 13-megapixel camera on the back that is paired with a 5-megapixel front shooter.
No word on the included battery; Philips’ devices are known for having bigger batteries than other phones, and we would assume that will remain the case with the i908, as well. On the other hand, if they want to make the world’s thinnest smartphone, they will have to cut corners somewhere.
In any case, in order to achieve the world’s slimmest phone title, Philips will have to beat the Gionee Elife S5.5, which has a 5.55 mm-thin body. Alas, that device is not available outside of China and perhaps few surrounding countries. Then again, We’re not sure whether Philips plans to sell the I908 all around the world, or will focus its effort on Chinese market only. Guess we’ll get all answers in the next few days… or weeks.
