Nokia: Demand for handsets in China to increase 15% in 2008

girl with a phoneWe all know China is a booming market. But considering that last year demand for handsets in the “world fastest growing economy” totaled 250 million units and that MediaTek recorded falling handset chip shipments in Q4 2007, we thought demand won’t grow that much. Good ol’ Nokia is there to prove us wrong, as they said they are expecting demand for handsets in the China to increase about 15% this year!

Now, January was everything but a great month for the mobile phone sales in China. Heavy snowfall in late January did postpone handset demand partially, but handset makers argue it also made consumers realize the importance of mobile technology, which should help contribute to increased shipments. Add Olympic Games in the mix and you’ll see why Nokia is so bullish on the Chinese market. Many people will be tempted to get the N95 8GB look alike for next to nothing, don’t you think?
