Welcome back! Let’s take a look at what the last week meant for Windows Mobile. Sure Symbian OS 9.5 is a pretty big announcement, but WinMo had several (r)evolutionary developments this past week. Windows New interfaces for mobile browsing, multimedia, and email, oh my! Mobile just keeps getting better…
Microsoft busted out with their hot new DeepFish mobile browser. The new web browser will redefine the way we view webpages – that’s any webpage, as DeepFish renders pages in their true desktop layout – no more wacky formatting snafus and even faster load times. Could someone hook that up with Windows Mobile 6.0, please? And, I don’t know if this really counts as Windows Mobile, but it is from Microsoft – the new ZenZui interface really sounds like a fresh new take on mobile interfaces. With zoom-able, user-created tiles that you can exchange with friends, the ZenZui could be the start of true mobile social networking.
Then there’s Emoze. Interesting name, even more interesting service. Emoze has really come out of its shell recently with its move to ditch the need for an always-on server pc. Now that it has the ability to use its own servers, Emoze is the way to do push email. Plus, it’s free!
Oh, and lest we forget the HTC Advantage (aka Athena), let’s go over it some more. True, it is an interesting device, and Dusan does have a point when he says that it “redefines mobile.” (I’ll give that one to ya, buddy!). But the importance of this wannabe UMPC seems to escape a lot of people. Devices like this are fairly innovative and the Athena is forging a new path in form factor. This design will evolve – getting thinner and more ergonomic (hopefully leaving its…interesting keyboard setup behind). The future of this platform is definitely something we want to keep an eye on.
As far as a service pack for Windows Mobile 5.0, I don’t know about you, but the future is Windows Mobile 6.0 – let’s not linger on service packs okay?
