Apple’s iPhone 3G launch was admittedly less than a smooth sailing operation. iPhone 3G hopefuls are still lining up for hours to get a chance at owning a piece of Apple-history. MobileMe users have only recently gotten their push data service up and running acceptably. The iPhone 2.0.1 OS has just been released (and the subsequent jailbreak solution – Pwnage Tool 2.0.2), bringing with it a healthy does of iPhone 3G stability and performance boosts.

The newly launched iPhone application platform has seen astonishing sales figures that have brought Apple about $30 million in revenue over the first 30 days of sales. iPhone and iPhone 3G users have reportedly downloaded over 60 million iPhone apps since the store’s launch last month. While many of the applications were free of cost to the users, many raked in major bucks for Cupertino. The premium iPhone applications earned something like $1 million per day for the past month.

“Who knows, maybe it will be a $1 billion marketplace at some point in time,” said Steve Jobs in a recent interview, “I’ve never seen anything like this in my career for software.” Apple takes a 30% revenue cut for all iPhone applications, which could have Apple taking in $360 million over the course of the AppStore’s first year of sales.

“Phone differentiation used to be about radios and antennas and things like that,” Jobs said. “We think, going forward, the phone of the future will be differentiated by software.”

The AppStore is no doubt a stellar success for Apple. With unparalleled integration and delivery, the AppStore promises to bring new features and services to the iPhone and iPhone 3G beyond the hardware’s initial intended functions.
