HTC TouchFLO “2D” for older HTC smartphones

HTC’s latest lower-end touchscreen smartphone, the HTC Touch Viva (Opal), is expected to bring once high-end features like a 2 megapixel camera and GPS down to a more affordable price-point. But, as the entry-level HTC Touch offering, the HTC Touch Viva doesn’t have the processing oomph to drive the beautiful TouchFLO 3D UI that we’ve come to love on our HTC Touch Diamond.

As such, HTC’s putting a new TouchFLO UI on their HTC Touch Viva. With UI visualizations that look like a flattened version of the TouchFLO 3D UI, the newer TouchFLO is being referred to as TouchFLO “2D.” The TouchFLO 2D interface looks and feels a lot like its “3D” counterpart, only without all the 3D-ness. And, with the smartphone-zeal that only the xda-developers community could muster, the TouchFLO 2D UI has been extracted from the HTC Viva and ported to older HTC touchscreen devices.

The TouchFLO 2D UI has been tested on a variety of HTC smartphones, so there’s a good chance that your older HTC device can handle TouchFLO 2D with little trouble. Head on over to xda-developers and download the TouchFLO 2D port to give your older handset a bit of a UI-refresh.
