BlackBerry Storm Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking!

Some people drop their devices. I’m fortunate enough to not be one of them. I know people that drop their phone on a daily basis. Me? Well, I’ve had my current iPhone 3G for many many months now… and I haven’t dropped it yet. Call me lucky (Watch, I’m going to drop it today… I just cursed myself!).

At any rate, some unfortunate soul named Jeff (or perhaps he was fortunate!) dropped his Verizon BlackBerry Storm out of his truck (fell on to the pavement from the drivers’ side). The amazing thing about it all is that the device escaped largely unscathed from the event. There were a few nicks and scratches, but the OS and battery remained a go… The only thing that took some damage was the Storm’s screen itself…

What I find so interesting about this video is not the fact that the Storm fell out of the truck and survived… it’s that the top portion of the screen actually popped off. Turns out that the top layer of the screen is glued on to the bottom portion via a metal rim around the outside. By the looks of things, it looks like the glue let go and the screen is left hanging by its cable connection at the bottom left corner of the device. You’ll notice in the video that he can still navigate the OS by touching the top screen, even if it isn’t sitting over top of the device. Check out the video and you’ll see exactly what I mean.
