High pixel density is all the rage these days – and we’re seeing manufacturers doing everything they can think of to capitalize on the trend. Case in point, Motorola and Kodak have announced that they will be working to bring a 5MP Kodak and Motorola team up to bring 5 MP megapixel camera phone to market in late 2007camera phone to market by the end of 2007. The new phones may bear the Motorola-Kodak moniker and will feature high-end components to go heads-up with the likes of Nokia, LG (with their Carl Zeiss and Schneider-Kreuznach optics) and Sony’s (with the famed CyberShot branding) camera phone offerings.

The best way to compete with these heavy-hitters is to team up with a well-established camera company – Kodak. The camera company will be producing the 5 megapixel CMOS sensor that will be used in the upcoming camera phones. Kodak President, Antonio Perez, said, “Our CMOS sensors have been well advancing for many years. And now we will have the ability to embed the sensor in the phone with all the richness we have with our imaging software. It will allow us to make the sensor, the most important part of the camera, able to manage the light, color, and the like.”
