Ever since Apple introduced the iPhone, we are noticing the increasing trend of companies trying to improve their UIs and the overall devices’ usability. Don’t get me wrong – that’s a good thing, but one should know when enough is just enough…

RIM working on a better, more user-friendly keyboard?

Now we have RIM’s patent application describing technology that would light individual keys on a BlackBerry keyboard when the user taps that key. I find it somewhat hard to comprehend. Ok, yet another technology acquired in the patent portfolio is a good thing, but man… It’s like I’m not aware that I’ve just pressed a key? That’s why I use physical keyboards rather than touchscreens — ’cause I love feedback from the keyboard. Who knows, maybe they’ll convince me when I try out the device sporting this technology…

In the meantime, you can read more about RIM’s patent titled “Keyboard for mobile communication device” on ZDNet blogs.
