National Taxpayers Union

Again and again I love reading when mobile technology goes beyond early adopters. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the 362,000-member strong National Taxpayers Union (NTU) has launched an SMS service for its members. The idea is to inform users aka “concerned citizens” on important matters of fiscal policy at the federal and state levels. Taxpayers can opt in to NTU’s service by texting “FIGHT” to 54608.

According to NTU’s Director of Government Affairs, Andrew Moylan, they [NTU] are the first grassroots taxpayer advocacy group to utilize SMS on a national level. “Now, with the push of a button, citizens nationwide will be able to call their elected officials — from Members of Congress to state legislators — and voice their concerns on or support of certain bills,” he added.

After signing up for NTU’s service, subscribers will receive an automated confirmation message with more information and opt-out instructions.

Finally for those not familiar (myself included), we should know that National Taxpayers Union is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 1969 to work for lower taxes, smaller government, and economic freedom at all levels.
