Holding a couple arm-fulls of groceries. Driving a car. Eating a bowl of cereal while combing your hair. There are too many instances throughout the day where your hands just aren’t free to mess around with your cellphone. And that’s where voice-control comes in. The latest rumblings from Redmond point to TellMe bringing voice commands to Windows Mobile 6.5. Unlike the BlackBerry lineup and Sprint Instinct and Instinct S30’s more limited application-based speech recognition, Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Mobile 6.5 OS will feature integrated system-wide voice controls, courtesy of Microsoft’s TellMe subsidiary.

According to Gizmodo, Microsoft is giving Windows Mobile 6.5 some serious speech-recognition support. WM6.5 will apparently use TellMe’s speech-to-action technology to give the user hands-free control over almost every aspect of their smartphone – sending text messages (including text transcription), searching the web, making phone calls. With a single click and a flick of the tongue, WM6.5 can find you the nearest pizza, local weather, text your friends or make a phone call.

With Android 1.5 expected to support voice commands, it makes sense that Microsoft make a big push into voice controls on Windows Mobile 6.5. Gizmodo says that WM6.5 should either come pre-loaded with TellMe or will be able to download the software for free.
