Citizen Connect to allow iPhone-owning citizens of Boston to quickly file civic complaints

City of Boston is going iPhone with a dedicated application called Citizen Connect. The idea here is to allow citizens to quickly file civic complaints by snapping a photo of neighbourhood problems and email them directly to City Hall. Using the built-in GPS receiver, the photo is geotagged making sure the local government knows exactly where problem occurred. Every complaint gets a tracking number, allowing citizens to follow city officials’ progress in addressing the issue.

At the moment, the application is in the testing phase, which involves some 70 people, both City Hall employees and volunteers. It will be offered as a free download at some point in August.

If proves credible, and we hope it will, it would be great to see Citizen Connect expanding to other platforms, in an effort to reach as many people as possible…
