BlackBerry 9700 Specs Leak, Sound Exactly Like Every Other New BlackBerry

Well, gawrsh, what comes after a 9500 and 9600 series BlackBerry? 9700? Good guess, and apparently RIM’s got it in the works. The specs are pretty much identical to what we’ve been seeing in the latest smartphones, and we don’t have any codenames yet, but here you go anyway:

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
  • UMTS/HSDPA
  • 480×360 resolution display
  • Wi-Fi a,b,g
  • OS 5.0
  • QWERTY keyboard
  • 3.2 megapixel AF camera
  • Bluetooth

GPS seems like a weird thing to leave out at this point – I’d be willing to guess that the tipster simply made an oversight, but if GPS wasn’t included in this model, it would doubtlessly be a dealbreaker for many. It would be a bit of a throwback to the days when the original Pearl was split off into Wi-Fi and GPS models (8120 and 8110 respectively, 8320 and 8310 for the Curve). It’ll be nice to get something more than these samey specs, in any case – even a name would be nice.
