Sprint Announces Green Samsung Reclaim

As expected, Sprint and Samsung went live with their eco-friendly Reclaim handset in New York today. It’s a simple portrait-slider with a full QWERTY keyboard, 2 megapixel camera, GPS, and social networking apps preloaded. The main selling points for the greenbeans out there will be that this phone is PVC and BFR-free, and that 40% of the outer casing is made from a corn-based bioplastic. Crazy. The packaging is also ecologically sound, with 70% of it created from recycled materials – the ink in the documentation is even soy-based. The charger has a notification light for when the handset is all topped up, and apparently consumes 12 times less the Energy Star standards require for standby. Sounds pretty dang green to me. The Reclaim will go for a mere $49.99 on a two-year contract once it’s available on August 16th. For more info, hit up Sprint.
