Tough times for Symbian are coming!?

TechNewsWorls reports about Microsoft Windows Mobile census deal. Analysts see this as a score one, at Symbian’s expense. After getting out of the gate slowly, Microsoft won its largest-ever contract for mobile phone software from the U.S. Census Bureau. The contract covers 500,000 handsets and could lead the software giant to dethrone Research In Motion’s BlackBerry as the most prolific device on the US market.

Furthermore author argues the fate of the Symbian, predicting not that bright future for the current market leader. Interesting piece, but who wants to believe that. 🙂

In the other news, at Linuxworld in Boston, PalmSource’s representative expressed his hopes that its Access Linux Platform (ALP) will become a leading alternative to Symbian and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile. Argument is that we can look at What Linux has done on the PC and server can also happen on the phone and handheld.

Battle for mobile OS is well underway. Linux has its fans, and there’s a massive capital behind Windows Mobile. I love Symbian and want to see them moving forward faster.
