Universal Search adds web search to iPhone’s built-in Spotlight; Works on jailbroken iPhones, only

Universal Search for iPhone

There’s a new app available for jailbroken iPhone owners called “Universal Search.” The application integrates with the built-in Spotlight app, adding web search to the mix.

Once installed, the new icon will appear on your iPhone/iPod Touch. From there you can set your location (zip code and city) and edit your search engine order settings. Once that is set, your next Spotlight search will also feature search results from Wikipedia, Google, Maps and Twitter — all which can come quite handy.

Clicking on the location will take you to the Google Maps app, whereas other icons will open Safari with search results.

Moreover, the mentioned 4 icons are only the beginning. By clicking on the “More” button, an extra row of buttons will appear with stacked options for various vertical searches — i.e. news, dictionaries, images…

Interested? Prepare to pour out 5 bucks ($4.99) to grab Universal Search, and that’s in the Cydis store.
