Zee Germans say NEIN! to Qualcomm for using zee Smartbook name

Smartbook AG (warning, link has sounds that automatically play REALLY LOUD) has filed a restraining order against Qualcomm for using the Smartbook name. A Smartbook, by the Qualcomm definition, is a small laptop powered by their Snapdragon processor and other associated Qualcomm chips. A smartbook, by the addicted-to-the-internet-mobile-geek definition, is a small laptop powered by an ARM chipset versus an x86 solution by either Intel or AMD. If Qualcomm violates this restraining order, a fine of 250,000 Euros ($1.6 trillion) will be issued. What’s Qualcomm’s response? If you’re reading this and are in Germany, try going to qualcomm.com and you’ll see that you can’t. That’s right, the company has blocked an entire nation from browsing their website just to avoid paying a small fee or fighting Smartbook AG in court. Don’t you just love copyright?
