Verizon ditches mail-in rebates for Palm phones

Mail-in rebates are a pain in the ass because half the time you forget about it, and sometimes it just never comes. Verizon Wireless feels your pain and it has dropped the mail-in rebates for the Palm Pre Plus and Pixi when you order online. You can now get the Pre for $149 and the Pixi for $79 with a new two-year contract. If you’re choosing between the two, definitely go with the Pre.

I’ve had the chance to spend some real time with Verizon Pre lately and I’m really liking it. The tiny keyboard is still too dainty for my liking and I would kill for an on-screen keyboard, but I am absolutely in love with webOS. There’s a fluidity and elegance to the platform that is unmatched by anything out there. The navigation takes a bit to get used to but then it becomes mind-bogglingly intuitive. The hardware’s a bit underpowered though, so there’s some lag but the webOS vision is a thing of beauty. I’d still probably have a hard time committing to the Pre for two years because the developer support isn’t quite there and Palm is hurting financially.
