Matias keyboard comes with a dedicated iPlace; Doesn’t charge your iPhone, unfortunately

Here’s a cool keyboard for every iPhone-ownin user out there. It’s called Matias keyboard and it comes with a dedicated slot right above the arrow keys that fits your beloved handset in portrait mode. The idea is great – to have your phone easily accessible when typing on a computer, especially if you’re using some app which works in conjunction or exchanges data with a PC — i.e. Convertbot, Pastebot and/or Touchpad.

There are, however, two problems:

  • We’re talking about a generic silicon pad which definitely doesn’t charge your iPhone nor connect it to your computer.
  • The keyboard itself is kinda ugly-ish. I can’t imagine a single Mac user dumping its fancy-schmancy chicklet keyboard for the one made by Matias. These keys are old school and honestly – I don’t like it.

Which leads me to the conclusion… The idea is great, but something’s missing.

Now imagine a great looking keyboard which has an iPhone docking port on it that actually charges your iPhone while you’re using a computer, and/or allows you to sync with your iTunes account. At the end, you would have a single USB cable which goes from a computer to keyboard, and the keyboard would then share the power (and connectivity with a computer) with the iPhone. Now that would be something I would buy right away.

Alternatively, we can imagine a keyboard that works with other devices like the Nexus One, Moto Droid, Palm Pre, etc. Hopefully, some smart company is reading these lines and is preparing to do something about it. 😉
