Samsung I5700 Spica getting Android 2.1 update as we speak!

We did mention that the Samsung I5700 Spica will be blessed with the Android 2.1 update, unlike its older brother – I7500. The process has begun, with Germans being among the first to see the new firmware being released for their all-touchscreen smartphones.

As you probably know (from our previous post), Android 2.1 will bring tons of changes to the Spica — including support for up to 9 homescreens (along with the revamped UI), augmented reality support, widgets, visual bookmarks, updated camera software, improved contact management, support for multiple accounts, HTML5-enabled web browser, Microsoft Exchange integration (though without Calendar support), live wallpapers and more.

In order to update, you’ll need to download (if you still haven’t) Samsung’s PC Studio 7 software, which is readily available from your country-specific Samsung Mobile website.

Hopefully, the Korean company won’t totally forget its I7500 users and will at least allow them to play with the Android 1.6 or possibly 2.0. Keeping our fingers crossed can’t harm, that’s for sure. 😉
