According to a new Juniper report, mobile ticket is set to experience a five-fold growth over the next five years. Among the companies embracing the technology are travelers, cinema goers and sport fans — all of which crave for the convenience it brings.

To put this in numbers, the research company forecasts that more than 1 in 10 mobile subscribers will either have a ticket delivered to their mobile phone or buy a ticket with their phone by 2014!

Unsurprisingly transportation sector is leading the growth with SMS, barcode and app driven services being offered by rail and metro companies, and airlines. Among the countries leading the pack are Japan, Scandinavia and Austria.

In addition to transportation, mobile ticketing is also seeing traction across a range of sporting and entertainment venues including baseball, concerts and movies.

Other findings from the report include:

  • Europe, Far East and China, and North America regions are all forecast to see double digit penetration by 2014.
  • Growth constraints include multiple ticket scheme environments such as certain transport markets.

And you can get additional information about the report titled “Mobile Ticketing: Transport, Sport & Entertainment and Events 2009-2014” from this page on Juniper’s website.
