Samsung Wave gets CDMA version

Well, that was quick. A day after making the bada-powered Wave available in a GSM version, Samsung is releasing a CDMA variant for China Telecom.

The CDMA version will be called the SCH-F859 and it will have identical features as its GSM cousin. That means China Telecom users can expect a large, super-clear 3.3-inch Super AMOLED capacitive WVGA touchscreen with an 800 x 480 resolution. There’s a blazing-fast 1 GHz processor inside, as well as WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0 and a 5-megapixel camera. You won’t have to sacrifice style for those features though, as it has an attractive aluminum finish and it’s only 10.9 mm thick.

The Wave is the first commercially-available device that uses the bada OS, a homegrown platform from Samsung that focuses on widgets and apps. We know that Samsung is going to use Android for more than half of its smartphones, but bada could be a good solution for the company’s feature phones, particularly for emerging countries. Additionally, Samsung is the second-largest handset maker in the world, so it has some leverage.

The CDMA version will soon launch in China but could it also hit Verizon Wireless or Sprint Nextel? We haven’t heard anything close to that, unfortunately, but we’ll keep our ears to the ground.
