Orange has launched its own-branded Android smartphone in France. The all-touchscreen device is called the Tactile Internet and it’s pretty much the same phone, specs wise, as the HTC Tattoo. We’re not sure which company actually makes it, but we do have the specs – there’s a 2.8-inch QVGA display (not sure whether it’s capacitive or resistive, though), 3.2-megapixel camera, HSDPA and WiFi connectivity, FM radio, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headset jack, 256MB of internal memory and a microSD expansion slot (2GB card is included in the box). As for the size, the device measures 107.5x57x13.8 mm and has a weight of 104 grams.
Finally the pricing. Orange is asking only a single Euro for the Tactile Internet on a contract. At that price, we’ve no doubts the company will sell quite a few units. When you think about it, we’re talking about a perfect entry-level smartphone which will definitely move many of the existing feature phone users to the “smartphone world.” Furthermore, I would expect that once this proves as a winning concept, Orange will introduce the phone to other markets in Europe…
