Tata Indicom launched a new mass market device for those users who need to be on both Tata’s network, but also want an additional SIM card slot to connect to other carriers. However, the Fly Mobile-made CG588 is not a dual-SIM device, but a dual-mode one that works both on CDMA and GSM-based networks.
It’s also a phone designed for heavy texters who will benefit from its full QWERTY keyboard. Moreover, the CG588 comes with the Fly Buzz! application pre-installed, which is touted as a “potent combination of Nimbuzz! and Snaptu” allowing users to stay connected on multiple popular platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, as well as a number of instant messaging networks.
The phone is priced at 4,795 INR, which is about $108, and it’s also bundled with an attractive offer from Tata Indicom for both voice and data usage. With a first recharge of 104 INR, customers will get 1 GB of free data, 250 local On Net minutes, 250 Local Off Net minutes and 250 text messages — a package worth 1,500 INR ($34).
The rest of CG588’s features include a QVGA display, 1.3 megapixel camera, FM radio, 3.5mm headset jack, Bluetooth, media player, 1500mAh battery and a microSD memory card slot (a 2GB card comes included inside the box).
