Those Aussies sure are serious about protecting motorists from the dangers of distracted drivers using their cellphones while driving. The Australian state of Victoria garnered about $5,800,000 ($5,400,000 USD) in fines associated with citations issued to those using their mobile phones on the road.
The additional revenue comes courtesy of approximately 40,000 drivers that failed to heed their state’s regulations regarding on-the-road mobile phone use. At $145 a pop, it can get expensive to talk and drive. Can you say hands-free kit?
Oh, and by the way, if you live in California, you’ll have to start looking into hands-free kits starting July 1, 2008. And, if you’re still watching MTV like there’s no tomorrow, chances are that you’ll have to go without your cellphone for the duration of your drive.
