What if your next laptop had 0 MHz, 0 MB of RAM and 0 GB of storage space?

That Nokia noBounds video produced by the researchers at the Bochum facility really got my thinking about the huge possible range of devices that can come to market if this technology becomes a standard anyone can implement.

Imagine a device that looks like a laptop, but in reality is just a screen with a keyboard. Without being connected to something like the Nokia N810 or N95 it would be useless, but as a mobile companion, think Palm Foleo or Redfly, it would have amazing battery life due to the fact that there was no processor inside or hard drive. Would such a device need to be usable as a standalone product? I don’t necessarily think so; a laptop like device such as the one I proposed would only be taken out of the house when you know you would end up using it, where as no one would dare leave their home without a mobile phone.

Where as the Palm Foleo or Redfly are propritary devices, imagine if noBounds becomes a standard that any device manufacturer can use? Current mobile phone processors don’t have enough power, that is certain, but with the OMAP 3 coming out in devices hopefully by the end of this year, if not 2009, don’t you think there is enough horsepower in those chips to power a mobile companion experiance?
