The Register hypothesizes why Motorola looks like they’ve been tied to the back of a chariot and dragged around an island 10 times and blames it on the death of Geoffrey Frost, the man responsible for the Hello Moto campaign. More than that, the former Nike marketeer pushed the engineers in the company to create a flagship product, regardless of the cost, as a representation of the technical achievements Motorola was capable of producing. You’ve heard of it, it’s called the RAZR.

Frost died of a heart attack in November of 2005 and since then the company has been running around like a chicken without a neck, except instead of loosing blood, they’ve been loosing money. What can save Motorola? You might be surprised to read what Catherine Keynes has to say.

I only have one thing to add to this: To all the people who actually build the products Motorola sells, it is not your fault. Do not blame yourself for the company’s problems, you’re all a talented bunch of individuals. We all know management is accountable for what is happening right now and it really is a shame because some of us, yes that includes me, actually think that if the right user experience was combined with the beautiful industrial design you’ve shown your capable of concocting, then maybe things would start looking a little sunnier.
