Austrian city bans mobile phones on public transport

Graz mobileThis is getting ridiculous. It seems that banning a mobile phone use is becoming a trend. I do acknowledge some people can be quite annoying when using their mobile phones, but banning their use on public transport is simply ridiculous.

To be fair, you can’t get a decent (if any) signal in metros in many cities, but if I can get the signal — and I certainly can get it in a tram — I want to be able to use it!

That being said, I’m sad to report the Austrian city of Graz issued a ban on mobile phone use on public transport. Their decision, which is highly controversial in Austria (no wonder here), makes the community the first worldwide to issue such a ban.

Annoyed over the constant buzz and passengers sharing their life secrets on buses and trams in the southern Austrian town, conservative Mayor Siegfried Nagel issued a regulation demanding mobile phones be switched to “silent.”

What’s next? Banning mobile phones in public toilets?
