And the first market Parkmobile has conquered in 2011 (as far as we know) is… Santa Cruz, California. Those living or visiting the city will be able to pay for parking with nothing but their mobile phone.
In order to do so, users first need to register at Parkmobile’s website. Once that is done, drivers can pay through mobile internet, dedicated iPhone app, or simply by calling 877-727-5718. Additionally, there’s an option to receive text message alerts and reminders.
The new service is being offered citywide at over 1,800 parking meters and pay-by-space lots. Enrollment in the new program is free, and you only get to pay the $.35 transaction fee.
Previously we saw Parkmobile launching its service in St. Petersburg, Florida; Massachusetts; Myrtle Beach; downtown and midtown Atlanta; Albuquerque; and Grand Rapids.
Commenting on the launch, Parkmobile’s CEO Albert Bogaard said: “Pay by phone offers customers a new and better way to pay for parking. Parkmobile users have 24/7 access to their online account; they can print reports and easily track their parking expenses. It’s much faster and more convenient.”
