ZTE Score coming to Cricket Sept. 25

Cricket, a wireless service provider, has just announced the launch of the ZTE Score. The smartphone is the first ZTE smartphone to hit Cricket’s network and its the seventh smartphone to be included in Cricket’s prepaid line of phone offerings. This phone is set to hit Cricket retail locations starting September 25.

The ZTE Score is another mid-level Android phone that runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The phone packs a modest 600 MHz processor, accelerometer and a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touch screen with a virtual keyboard. The ZTE Score also carries the usual specs you’ll find in a mid-level smartphone like WiFi, 3G connectivity, XT9 trace for easy text entry, and 3.2MP rear camera that supports video recording as well as still photos. The device will also work with the new unlimited Muve Music service and can access all the apps on the Android Market.

This Cricket ZTE smartphone could have been a real tempting purchase for those out there who are price conscious, but the fact that it only sports a 600 MHz processor makes it a bit uninteresting. Just think, why would Cricket customers pick this up when they could snatch the Samsung Vitality, which sports a speedier 800MHz CPU and also supports the new unlimited Muve Music service.

That said, users interested in this device can purchase the phone at the low price of $129.99 without a contract. Not bad for an Android device running Gingerbread 2.3, right?
