Network Expansion Contract in UAE Goes to Nokia Siemens Networks

Nokia Siemens Networks have won a turnkey network expansion and managed services contract. The contract is with the UAE-based mobile carrier named du… and the contract is worth roughly $225 million USD.

du ended the first half of this year with 1.85 million customers, and this new contract will expand the capacity of the network to 4 million subscribers. Surely it will not take too long to push the network to capacity considering the rapid growth in the region.

The network expansion also contains Internet-HSPA setup which will allow customers in the region to upload and download much faster than before… and give significant battery life improvements and quicker wake-from-idle connections.

Osman Sultan, CEO of du commented on the expansion: “When planning this phase of our business expansion, we were looking for a partner with an end-to-end capabilities to meet our needs… With Nokia Siemens Networks state-of-the-art equipment and with our strong existing relationship, we are ready to take this partnership to the next level to the benefit of du’s customers and our business.”

No details are available on expansion completion dates, but look for the work to begin soon.
