Verizon makes Motorola Xyboard tablets official

After quietly introducing a pair of Motorola tablets a few days ago, Verizon officially made the Motorola Xyboard tablets with 4G LTE official but I fear that these devices will still be too expensive to really carve out a market.

The Motorola Xyboard is much thinner than the Xoom – Verizon describes it as thinner than a AAA battery – and it will come with in versions with a 10.1-inch screen or an 8.2-inch screen. Look for a 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB or RAM, 4G LTE, a 5-megapixel camera and Android 3.2 in these new Motorola tablets and Verizon says these will soon be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich soon.

Both tablets seem pretty nice and packed full of power but I’m not in love with the pricing. The 10.1-inch Xyboard will cost $529.99 with 16 GB, $629.99 for 32 GB and $729.99 for the 64 GB model and these will all require a new two-year data contract. The 8.2 version can be had for $429.99 with 16 GB and $529.99 with 32 GB and it requires a two-year contract. I really do think that having a connected tablet is great but I don’t think many people will be rushing out this holiday season to sign up for another data contract.
