The BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981, RIM’s fancy looking BlackBerry smartphone made in co-operation with Porsche, has been caught at the FCC where government employed engineers are testing its radiation levels, making sure the device is safe to be used by the general public. At the same time, I’m sure some of them are comparing their cheap-lookin’ BlackBerrys with this model, which let’s face it does look expensive. And expensive it is, with some reports suggesting RIM may ask up to $2,000 for the unlocked BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9981 (though with a carrier contract that price will go down).

Anyway, the version of RIM’s baby FCC folks are playing with sings along WCDMA 850MHz and 1900MHz bands, making it suitable for AT&T’s and Rogers’ networks. This, however, doesn’t mean any of the two carriers will pick it up – it just tells us that’s an option and that there’s hope something like that will happen. We’ll make sure to keep up with the news and let you know as soon as we hear something on that front…
