Wikipedia’s Japanese-language content optimized for mobile devices

WikipediaWikipedia CAN be accessed with any XHTML mobile web browser, and there’s nothing new about it. However, so far we haven’t seen anyone optimizing Wikipedia’s content for mobile users. That just changed!

A Japanese web portal Goo Internet has repackaged the content of Wikipedia so it can be searched and viewed on cell phones. The service includes (no wonder) only documents from the Japanese-language version of Wikipedia. The top page shows the current five most searched for terms, enabling users to quickly access the popular content.

It somehow surprises that it took so long for companies to mobilize the Wikipedia. Hopefully some other portal site in the English speaking region will read this and make the English version of Wikipedia more accessible for mobile devices. (via: InfoWorld)
