Mozilla’s Fennec Not Coming to Android Any Time Soon

The iPhone has Safari, Windows Mobile devices have IE Mobile, RIM has their own BlackBerry Web Browser, and Google has the Chrome browser. The mobile web browser battle is heating up, especially with Mozilla’s new mobile browser ‘Fennec‘ in Alpha.

Fennec is rumored to be competitive to other big higgers like Safari when it comes to JavaScript performance… and other rumors have the mobile browser featuring voice control, which makes complete sense for me for a mobile browser. Only problem is, if you’re waiting for Fennec to hit the Android platform, you might have to wait a while.

Jay Sullivan from Mozilla has said that Fennec will not hit Android any time soon. Not until Google accepts programs that are not written in Java for Android. At the moment, Android does not support apps that run on the open-source OS without being written in Java. A bit dissapointing for Mozilla boosters, but you know Google will address this issue at some point. They would be foolish to ignore Mozilla and Fennec.

For more info or to grab a copy of the Fennec Alpha, click here. However, it is still only available for the Nokia  N810 internet tablets at the moment. If you don’t have a N810, you can also download it for your Windows, Mac OS X or Linux desktop.
