Mobile commerce is rising, but many are still reluctant to mix money with mobile phones

Twenty years ago, the Internet revolution was about to begin. People were ready to surf the web, write HTML pages and chat on IRC. Now, we are at the forefront of another revolution, a mobile revolution that, among other things, will let us shop and share from our mobile phones and tablets. This oncoming wave of mobile commerce is summarized in a new infographic from Hybris that presents the top ten trends in smartphone shopping.

Several of these trends make you realize how far we have come, and how far we need to go. One the one hand, it’s unbelievable that Groupon, a company we never heard of a few years ago, made $114, 000 in one month in Chicago alone. One the other, only one-third of us intend to make a purchase using their mobile phone and less than half of us who claim to be mobile shoppers have downloaded a retailer’s app. Clearly, we still have a long ways to go before buying on the go becomes an everyday event.

If you’re curious about the other trends, you can check find them in the graphic below. Any thoughts or comments on the future of mobile commerce are welcome in the comments.
